OMF! #Flash oldschool demo compo time!

Posted in News, Flash by BYTE-Smasher on the December 2nd, 2006

(note: In my insanity, I forgot to realize that this was a syndicated blog… so I’m retracting large chunks of my previous post, and giving you some real news instead!)

BYTE-Smasher here, from the channel known as #flash on quakenet. I’m here to let you all know that we will be having “oldschool” demo competitions in #flash soon, the idea of which is to use flash to mimic effects used in oldschool graphics demos produced for old hardware like amigas, c64s, or even some more advanced effects like those used in DOS demos … of course, Flash has more processing power, so as long as it looks oldschool, that’s all we really care about. The point of all this? There really is none other than:

  1. Fun.
  2. Learning more about graphics development.
  3. Looking like cool sceners that gotz skrillz, when in fact, we have none.
  4. Pixelated graphics look cool, and chip music sounds awesome.

So there you have it. I will be back when we have worked out the mechanics of these competitions, and when we have a decent idea for our first compo. Until then, check out this cool demo by Chris …. and feel free to join the channel and chat about how crazy we are for deciding to be nostalgic about restrcited graphics capabilities!
